Privacy
In short: this website collects nothing about you at all.
This website
The pages at departed.lightmorphic.com are plain files. There is no analytics, no tracking pixel, no advertising, no embedded video, no social buttons, and no fonts or scripts fetched from anywhere else. Nothing on the page reports back that you visited.
The site is hosted by GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc. Like any web host, GitHub records the requests its servers receive, which includes your IP address, and it uses that to serve the site and to protect it from abuse. We do not receive those logs and cannot see them. GitHub's own privacy statement covers what it does with them.
There is no form on this site and nothing to sign up to, so there is nothing we could collect even if we wanted to.
The Departed software
Departed is a program you download and run on your own computer. It is not a service we operate, and it does not send anything to us. We never see who runs it, how many people run it, or what any of them put in it.
When you run it, the program holds this on your own machine: your account name and a scrambled form of your password, the two email addresses you enter, your mail server settings, the files you add, the letter you write, a record of when you last checked in, and a log of the check-ins, reminders and errors along the way.
Your mail password and your letter are encrypted where they are stored. Your files are kept exactly as you handed them over, which means they are encrypted if you encrypted them and not if you did not. All of it sits in the one folder you chose on your own disk, and deleting that folder deletes the lot.
If several people share one copy, each person's things are kept apart and nobody can see anybody else's. An administrator can remove an account, and doing so deletes everything belonging to it.
Your archive passphrase is never held by the program at any point. It is not asked for, not stored, not written to the log, and not needed for the program to do its job.
The program sends email through the mail server you configure. Those emails go from your server to the addresses you chose, and never through us.
Your rights
Because this site collects no personal data, there is nothing here to request, correct or delete. If you have written to us and want to know what we hold from that correspondence, or want it deleted, email privacy@lightmorphic.com and we will answer within 30 days.
The lawful basis for holding an email you send us is our legitimate interest in replying to it. We keep correspondence for as long as it is useful and then delete it. We do not share it with anyone.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to us at complaints@lightmorphic.com, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
